As you should all know by now…in the pages of Lights Go Out we like to run short interviews with bands which we call our “10 Questions With” feature. Whilst working on Issue 12 we got in touch with Lower Than Atlantis and posed them the 10 questions feature. Unfortunately due to them being on tour the answers didn’t quite make it back in time to go in the new issue. Rather than leave things a couple of months before Issue 13, I’ve opted to upload the interview onto the site for people to have a quick read of.
With their second album due out in April, things are looking really promising for Lower Than Atlantis. Already getting airplay on Radio 1, this year promises to be a massive one for the band. We caught up with bassist Dec and got him to answer our “10 Questions With” feature….here is is!
1. What’s currently going on at Lower Than Atlantis HQ?
We’re currently on tour in America, so at the moment our HQ is the van.
2. Your new album “World Record” comes out in April, what can we expect from it and how does it differ from “Far Q”?
We never want to be one of those bands that just churns out the same record one after another. That’s just bullshit and lazy. It really pisses me off when bands always say ”Our new record is heavier, harder and faster” or ”the melodic bits are more melodic” etc. When I hear that phrase it usually means I’m not gonna like it and it’s the same old shit. You’ll still know World Record is us. ‘The same but different’.
3. How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard you guys yet?
I don’t want to tie ourselves down to one sound. I’d probably say something like ‘use your ears, listen and find out for yourself.’
4. You recorded at Outhouse in Reading, what made you choose this studio?
We wanted the record to sound more powerful and really work on the hooks and structures this time around and the studio has a good track record so it seemed like the best choice. In my opinion I think they’ve done an awesome job.
5. Which bands have inspired you and continue to do so?
Foo Fighters are my favourite band and I like every record equally as much.
6. You seem to play live a fair bit with bands like More Than Life. Which bands have been your highlights of gigging with?
Over the last year or so we have been on a lot of heavier tours. That’s usually not my cup of tea but we all got on really well. We were on a bus for the first time with our buds The Ghost Inside in the UK and mainland Europe so lots of getting fucked up.
7. How does it feel to be getting played on mainstream radio?
Pretty fucking rad. To have the support and exposure is awesome for a band like us.
8. If you could share the stage with any one band, who would it be?
Foo Fighters.
9. What does 2011 hold for Lower Than Atlantis?
World domination
10. And finally, what records are currently spinning on your stereo?
Right now I’m listening to Lights and I’m hoping to give the new Rival Schools record a spin at some point.
