Hailing from Pennsylvania, pop punks Post Season have just put out their second full length. Released via Know Hope Records and self-titled, it’s a real slice of top notch tunes, killer riffs, catchy lyrics and it’s packed with melodies. Post Season are definitely a band on the top of their game and are keeping pop punk alive and well. We were able to throw some questions the way of Daniel Tippery to find out more about Post Season…
Hey, thanks for chatting to us at Lights Go Out, so first up can we talk about your latest record, what’s changed within the band since your debut record “Remember” and what can people expect to hear from your new self-titled album?
There’s been some changes for sure since “Remember”. Only Conor and Me recorded on “Remember” out of the current roster. After that record we had a few members change out and it’s been the same for about 4 years now. Also we have had a lot of changes in our lives that just lead to lyrical and musical inspirations for this record. In between the two LPs we released two EPs and a Split with Such A Mess. More importantly, we have had the pleasure of touring the country and meeting tons of amazing people!
We’ve been lucky enough to check a copy out already and we’re really impressed by it. What was the biggest challenge for you as a band with this record?
We wanted to make sure we hit a little bit of each of our favorite styles while retaining the feel of Post Season. I feel like we were able to achieve what we were going for and are really happy with the results.
You’ve teamed up with Know Hope Records for this release, how did that come about and how has the relationship been with the label so far?
KHR is great! Good people. We got in contact with them through a close friend of ours and everything seemed to fall right in place.
Was it important for you that this record had a vinyl release? And did you have much input into the variants that the label has available?
Yes and yes. We love a fun physical copy so we did the record in 3 colors one blue one red and one yellow. We all enjoy Pokemon and those were the cartridge colors of the Gameboy game in the states we grew up playing. Also we teamed up with an artist (Chris Pappas) to make Alt Pokemon Covers for the album limited to the first 151 records… 151… Get it.
Are you guys huge fans of the vinyl format and any of you collectors at all?
I am for sure / I have a fair amount at this point as well. Also I just enjoy physical music.
Are there plans to head off on tour to support the record? And have you any plans to come over to our shores in the UK at all?
We just announced a few record release shows for the east coast here where everyone gets a free CD just for showing up. The U.K. would be super fun… Some day soon hopefully!
How would you describe a Post Season live show?
The most energetic set you’ll ever experience.
Who have been your favourite bands to play shows with? And what bands would you love to be able to share a show with?
Our tours with Such A Mess have been amazing! Let’s tour with Relient K or Sum 41 Who do I need to talk to to make that happen?!
You’re in the pop punk category, and I know it’s a cliché question, but which bands have been huge influences on the band’s sound and also on you personally as musicians?
Eagles, Korn, La Dispute, Lifetime, Sublime, Taylor Swift, Pennywise… literally anything with a catchy chorus.
Also a few years ago it seemed that the pop punk genre seemed to make a huge comeback and you had bands like Man Overboard with their “defend pop punk” slogan, how did that sit with you as a band? Did you feel pop punk was dying out?
Not really, trends come and go but Green Day has been around for a minute.
So what’s next for Post Season? Anything else in the pipeline at all?
Musicians are always making music so we’ll see what we come up with next! As for now we are just hoping people will enjoy the new Album
Have you already started working on the next record at all?
The day we left the studio for this one we started talking about the next one.
Have you any words of advice for people out there in bands?
Just keep writing and playing. People will enjoy it. Also, be kind.
I know it’s another cliché thing to ask about your name, so I’ll assume the name is sports related. Are you all sports fans and which teams do you follow?
The name came from a Ken Griffey Jr Poster that was hanging in our first practice space. As for teams… we’re all from different cities and mortal enemies. JK we don’t really hate each other.
Music wise, can you all remember the first record/CD you owned and what was it?
The first CD I purchased for myself was Blink-182 Dude Ranch I spent birthday money on it.
Also what was the first show you went too?
Local shows were the first but I did see Anti-Flag when I was super young. if I’m not mistaken that was my first travel to a show moment.
Away from the band, what do you all do job wise?
What a wildly rare question… Great question though! Bryan works does Pre Production with new artists, Canyon works for a college handling admission systems, Chuck works at a Warrant office, Conor is in the Co-Ed hardcore band Sharptooth / drives uber between tours and I am a Custom Integrator for AV / home automation systems.
I’m a bit of a movie fan and I am always interested to hear what movies other people enjoy. So what is your all time favourite movie and why?
This one is impossible for me to answer. I’m also a huge movie fan and I can’t set it to one. Some of my favorites though are Return of the Jedi, I Love You Man, Mean Girls, Back To The Future, TMNT live action from 1990 & Wayne’s World.
Huge thanks for chatting with us, it’s much appreciated and best of luck with your new record. To close out, I’d like to ask just one more final question for you. Don’t worry it’s nothing to do with Trump, it’s much more hard hitting…. So if you guys were to be Simpsons characters, which ones would you be?
Bart… Don’t have a cow, man!
