Kissing Is a Crime “Crown Royal” Video up now at Nylon, Debut EP out 9/2 on Don Giovanni Records
Kissing Is a Crime is the brainchild of Brooklyn songwriter Matthew Molnar.
After a youth spent crossing bridges and tunnels from New Jersey to attend and perform punk shows on NYC grounds, Molnar relocated to Brooklyn in the mid 2000’s where he became embedded in the DIY scene and co-founded the groups Soft Black, Friends, and Pagan Rituals. Meanwhile, Molnar was slowly accumulating notebook scraps and 4-track cassette recordings for future use in his ideal, as-yet unrealized band.

Eventually, Molnar set out to gather band mates who shared a mutual involvement in the DIY Brooklyn music community. He recruited Liz Hogg after watching her perform at Shea Stadium with her own ensemble, Beach Arabs. Beatrice Rothbaum – a fellow fan of riot grrrl and ’80s pop — joined on bass. Drummer Alex Feldman completed the band’s line up.
Kissing Is a Crime is set to release Your Secrets Are Safe With Me, their debut EP, on September 2nd via Don Giovanni Records. Recorded at Rearhouse by Jarvis Tavenier (of the band Woods), the 3-song collection showcases the quartet’s meticulous approach to crafting emotionally resonant and memorable pop songs.
The “Crown Royal” video was directed by Charlotte Hornsby on 16mm film on Rockaway Beach in Queens, NY.
