Party Battleship is the rock and roll venture from Shalini Morris (Kissyfish, Vinyl Devotion, Mitch Easter), Donnie Merritt (Lodestar, Mark Crozer and the Rels), John Morris (Tyre Fyre, Electrolux, Snagglepuss) and Adam Roth (Bellglide, The Catch Fire, Laburnum), all Charlotte, NC music scene luminaries. They release their new LP, Cake + Flames on March 10th.
Cake + Flames is a dazzling spectacle of alt-rock proficiency. With the band sharing a combined century of live and recorded music experience, they unabashedly put their ‘90s rock pedigrees on display. The result is a recording that’s as authentic as it is refreshing. In a time when albums are overproduced to the point of homogenization, Party Battleship parade guitars and drums at the forefront of the listener experience.
Party Battleship is a band that’s not afraid to declare that they’re going to turn up their amps and exercise their rock demons. Their songs are their odes to their craft. It’s apparent on Shalini’s vocals: “Don’t live in other times / Don’t live in other lives” (“Lilac Dust”). Another great is example is “As Loud As I Can” where John Morris exclaims that he’ll “Play as loud as I can / In a cool rock band.” Party Battleship have the dexterity and capability to bring the listener in on the fun and put aside their post-modern anxieties, even for 42 minutes bursts.
