Hell found a home last night at the Met Life Stadium in Rutherford, NJ where fans from all over the tri-state area gathered to salute AD/DC in the “Rock or Bust” tour and hear Angus Young kick ass on the guitar. With the intensity of a young punk rock band, AC/DC didn’t let up, rocking hard all night long with a fireworks show while the band and fans sang along to “For those about to rock (We salute you)”.
Shorn of their de facto leader, Malcolm Young (who retired due to dementia) and drummer Phil Rudd (who was absent due to legal difficulties), the band was brilliant with Malcolm’s nephew Stevie Young on rhythm guitar and Chris Slade in lieu of Rudd on drums.
That being said, the essence of AC/DC remains utterly unchanged. The highest grossing band of all time, international superstars of 35 years and counting, the celebration of rock is rejoiced with the giant bell swinging above them during the famous rock anthem “Hells Bells”.
The concert, even from a box seat, was super loud, high charged, and full of energy with Angus shredding guitar on solos. Angus played nonstop. As the crowd screamed for more, he whipped off his tie and used it to play some riffs. His tireless playing fed off the Light-up AC/DC devil horns blazed light through the dark stadium with enough people wearing them that every section in the sold out stadium glowed red.
The audience cheered, sang, and toasted along, and one guy in the box seat next to me almost fell forward onto the crowd. As singer Johnson proclaimed “Let there be guitar” Angus walked the catwalk playing a theatrical yet technically efficient solo and confetti burst around him while the audience cheered even louder.
