Here you can read news that we think you'll be interested in, but not entirely LGO related!
As 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of Lemuria’s debut album, ‘Get Better’, the Buffalo indie-punk trio have announced a tour of the UK and Ireland in July to celebrate the record. They’ll be playing ‘Get Better’ in its entirety at each of the nine dates, as well as a carefully-picked selection of compositions that span their time together as a band. Tickets on sale Friday at 10am.
‘Get Better’ and Lemuria’s discography as a whole have lit the way for many a contemporary emo, punk, alt or indie entity.
Shortly prior to the album’s creation, drummer/vocalist Alex Kerns lost his father and explains that “after a funeral fiasco and during a climax of grief, we began writing our first album ‘Get Better’. An album title with a few meanings to me, but mostly it was elemental for me to simply get better… I wrote it on my snare and two tom drums. GET BET TER. An imaginary coach to remind me to move forward and never let myself be finished with the craft.
I’ve been revisiting the album hearing a decade old reflection of myself talking back to me with monumental indifference. I remember that me. I’m still that me sometimes, just not so hard panned. I was so different then, and I’ll be so different again. Listening back I find a sanctuary, a place where nothing is permanent, where feelings are tempered with time and glass becomes sand…
Now that you know the setting, it may give some of the lyrics more clarity. Themes rooted in stress and clouded with numbness simultaneously. Time might not expire the feelings the decade old songs document, but it provides proof of your ability to pivot.”
‘Get Better’ will also be getting a UK anniversary reissue. Stay tuned for details on the release.

Afropunk premiered director Clyde Petersen’s deeply trippy animated video for Aye Nako‘s “Nightcrawler.” The song is comes from the Brooklyn based band’s second full-length, Silver Haze, which will be out April 7th on Don Giovanni Records.
“The song is about unpacking difficult memories trapped inside of a shaken bottle; I open the cap and brace myself to see what happens,” explains singer/guitarist Jade Payne. “I was carrying a bunch of emotional baggage with past relationships that I hadn’t quite dealt with or figured out how to heal from.”
Starting in April, the band will also embark on a full US tour.
Formed in 2010, Aye Nako is a queer punk band comprised of four weirdos that write disorienting, but highly melodic punk songs while carving out a space to co-exist in the fold between art, music, and politics. The band has self-released one full length, Unleash Yourself (2013), and also put out an EP, The Blackest Eye (2015) through Don Giovanni Records. They have toured throughout the US with Screaming Females, Joanna Gruesome, and Speedy Ortiz.

Ho99o9 (Horror) recently announced the forthcoming release of their long-awaited debut album ‘United States of Horror’, due out May 5th via their own imprint Toys Have Powers through Caroline. ‘City Rejects’ is the latest single to be revealed from the record and it’s another produced by David Andrew Sitek of TV on the Radio, following on from the title track of the record, which was the first taster of its unique power. The video for ‘United States of Horror’ was the first in a trilogy of music videos to accompany the record with ‘City Rejects’ being the second in the series.
Always a force to be reckoned with in the live arena, Ho99o9 most recently laid down the gauntlet at SXSW in Austin with their first show there shut down by cops just two songs in. The duo will kick off a headline tour of the US and Canada imminently, leading into a plethora of European Festival appearances, as well as several newly announced headline shows including a date at The Underworld in London in June. Tickets on sale now. The past two summers have seen the band decimating stages and whipping up a multitude of frenzied crowds on the UK and European festival circuit and this year is set to be no different as they set their sights on festival grounds across the continent.
Formed by theOGM (Jean) & Yeti Bones (Eaddy), Ho99o9 is an amalgamation of punk, rap, militancy, industrial, metal and hardcore creating what they describe as Deathkult.

FALSE ADVERTISING are pleased to reveal the video for their new single ‘Not My Fault’ following a triumphant week at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas and looking ahead to a run of festival appearances over the coming months – full dates below.
Released 31st March 2017, you can watch and share the video for the single here: https://www.youtube.com/
The single has picked up support from Huw Stephens at BBCR1, John Kennedy at Radio X as his Exposure Hot One, and Amazing Radio, with spins from many more specialist shows. The track is the first in a run of standalone releases that the band plan to drop throughout the first half of this year, building on their caustic, fuzz-drenched approach to alternative rock carrying echoes of underground ‘90s champions Cave In, Hundred Reasons, Idlewild and Garbage.
Explaining the concept for the video, the band say: “We basically just wanted to be selfish and have a great day, so we went and spent loads of money on arcade machines, grilled cheese and alcohol. The song is about being semi-oblivious and detached from the crazy political landscape that we reside within these days, so we thought fuck it, let’s be oblivious and do whatever the hell we want to bring it to life.”
“We filmed, directed and edited it ourselves as we do with the majority of our music, artwork and videos. You can tell this because there is only one shot when all three of us are in it together, which we got Chris’s girlfriend Urszula to shoot for us.”
‘Not My Fault’ was recorded across various sessions at The Northbourne Centre in Didcot, Oxfordshire, as well as Marlboro House and the band’s own house in Manchester. It was engineered by Sam Jones and Chris Warr, produced by Sam Jones and False Advertising, and mixed by Sam Jones.
13th April – The Chapel, Leeds
14th April – Wales Goes Pop Festival
15th April – Stockton Calling Festival
22nd April – Wrong Festival, Liverpool
Forged in the depths of the outermost reaches of existence itself, Gun Shy was first uncovered taking temporary residence in Southampton in January of the Earth year, ‘2016’ before announcing ‘First Transmission,’ which was released in May via Failure By Design Records – a 5 song audio transmission that drew influence from genres ranging from post-punk and doom to post rock. Gun Shy asks its followers to remain vigilant and to keep watching the skies.
Gun Shy’s new EP; ‘The Long Dance’ is due for release on Earth date ‘May 12th, 2017’ via Southampton’s very own Wrong Way Round Records on both cassette and digital formats.
Recorded mixed and mastered live at The Ranch Production House by Lewis Johns.
Watch the video for Whilst You Execute and In Perfect Silence:
“The reason we chose to do a double video was for two reasons; creatively it was a challenge and if you don’t challenge yourself as an artist, then you won’t ever improve, and maybe even lose the joy of doing it altogether. It is also something none of us had ever had the chance to do in previous projects, and with the ethos of Gun Shy being what it is, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
The other reason for choosing to do a double video is as an attempt to combat something that streaming has brought with it; the ability to shuffle a record. We created this record to be cohesive and for the tracks to flow – to become an entity as a whole. The double video, the double single, all allow us to present the tracks as they should be listened to, to give them the desired impact and effect”

Kings Lynn ska-punk outfit, Faintest Idea, are pleased to reveal a new video for ‘Ouroboros’, the final piece in a trio of feature videos that make up a short film detailing the socio-political issues faced in the UK as a result of the current Conservative government.
Faintest Idea have also announced a run of UK/EU headline dates and festival appearances for spring/summer with details below.
In the final episode of the three-part series, our plucky banker who featured in the first two videos has the tables turned on him as he’s dressed in The Hunt’s traditional red regalia, and chased through woodland by the band (donning fox masks) in a delicious reversal of roles.
This latest track from the rudeboy street punks is the final single to be taken from their critically acclaimed 2016 album ‘Increasing The Minimum Rage’ released via Manchester-based punk and ska label TNSrecords last year.
Commenting on the video, the band say: “This is the 3rd and final part in our series of music videos from the album. The series itself looks at power relations and the repercussions of political actions and the cycles they can cause, which tie in to the lyrics of this final song ‘Ouroboros’: Trickle down’s siphoned off from the community / Scorched earth tactic of big industry / While ones halves eaten / The other half eats / And the cycle repeats. Thanks to Jamie and Pete for shooting and acting in all three.”

Spotlights, the Brooklyn-based band featuring Mario and Sarah Quintero (formerly of Sleep Lady), have signed to Ipecac Recordings.
Off the back of their successful recent string of dates, Belfast-based Indie/Punks, Empty Lungs, have shared the new video for ‘Losing It. Finding It’ and announced further tour dates for this Spring.
Check it out here: https://youtu.be/m2Szz4-
“This was filmed in October 2016 during a short East Coast U.S. tour on our way down to play FEST,” says guitarist, Kev Jones.
“It mostly features us getting sweaty onstage, drinking beers and smoking cigarettes. We had such a great tour, caught up with loads of friends and met so many amazing new people. It’s actually a real contrast to the theme of self-doubt in the song but that was intentional. We wanted to show the positives outweigh the negatives and getting to travel halfway around the world with your best friends to play music is a pretty special thing.”
Catch Empty Lungs on tour:
1st April- Belfast, The Barge (NI)
7th April- Limerick, The Loft (IE)
21st April- Ballina, Emmets (IE)
17th June- Hamburg, Booze Cruise Festival (DE)
23rd June- Bradford, 1 in 12 Club (UK)
24th June- Leeds, The Grove Inn (UK)
25th June- Manchester, 0161 Festival (UK)
26th June- Edinburgh, Bannermans (UK)
27th June- Glasgow, Bloc (UK)
29th June- Derby, Hairy Dog (UK)
‘Losing It. Finding It’ is taken from the new EP, ‘Don’t Get It’ which is out now through Hidden Pony Records.
Managing to capture the angst and protest spirit of punk rock and blend it with hooks and melody more akin to the indie rock and powerpop of the 90’s, Empty Lungs have an energy and determination second to none. Then again, when you grow up in Belfast, Northern Ireland at the tail end of a bitter and divisive 35-year conflict, grit and determination to create something positive and unique are instilled in you.
This determination has seen Empty Lungs become the first European artist to sign with Canadian based label Hidden Pony Records.
‘Don’t Get It’ was recorded by long time friend Rocky O’Reilly (And So I Watch You From Afar, Oppenheimer) at Start Together Studios, Belfast. The first 2 tracks were mixed by Gus Van Go and Werner F (Said The Whale, Wintersleep) and the 3rd by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung).
Having been formed in late 2011 by Jones, Empty Lungs have released a string of EP’s, singles and 7 inches, all receiving support and airplay from BBC RADIO 1 and BBC RADIO ULSTER.
Things have been far from straight forward for Empty Lungs. As well as the usual struggles of losing members, losing jobs and facing the financial strain of DIY touring there have been some more unusual setbacks. In 2013, Kev Jones found himself climbing out of a 2nd-floor window in the midst of a house fire that (after nearly killing him) left him homeless 2 weeks before the band’s first European tour. Cancelling was never an option and during that tour a bond was forged between members Mykie Rowan (Drums/Vocals), Conor Langan (Bass Vocals) and Kev Jones and the determination to put every drop of energy into doing what they love was bolstered.
Not letting the geographical hindrance of living on a small Island on the edge of Europe stop them, Empty Lungs have toured consistently since their formation. Having hit the DIY circuits in UK, Europe and US the band have managed to share the stage with a host of acts along the way including Japandroids, Alkaline Trio, The Subways and many more. 2014 saw Empty Lungs be the first ever Irish band to play THE FEST in Gainesville, Florida and have since returned 3 years in a row, touring the east coast several times in the process.
‘Don’t Get It’ is out now through Hidden Pony Records on 7 inch vinyl and digital download through all usual retailers
See Through Dresses released its Tiny Engines debut End of Days in the Fall of 2015, introducing a wider audience to a sound both intrinsic and environmental, with stark contrasts between its principal songwriters’ devastatingly riff-heavy jams and endearingly honest confessionals. It showcased what the band can do in spaces where guitars and rhythms rule the roost.
If End of Days is its rock record, Horse of the Other World, out June 30th, is See Through Dresses’ dreamy opus. Recorded in 2016 in two locations — ARC Studios with Ben Brodin (Pile, First Aid Kit, The Good Life) and at the band’s home studio, Little Machine, by Mathew Carroll — it signals a sonic leap into a more ethereal, soundscape-driven aesthetic.
Reverb-drenched and synth-laden, Horse of the Other World blends Carroll and Bertuldo’s masterful mood creation and technical prowess while further exploring the depths of the band’s dynamics. “Pretty Police” mixes sparkle and bounce with brood, while “Violet” cuts sharply via crystalline keys and arpeggiated chords. Bassist Alex Kirts pumps the album’s bleeding heart and drummer Nate Van Fleet is tactical and creative. Their playing shines as the foundation of songs like “Lucy’s Arm” and “Herbivore,” whose climaxes are textbook See Through Dresses.
Bursting onto the Omaha scene with its 2014 Self-Titled debut, See Through Dresses continues to gain international traction. The band has toured the U.S. several times over and made trips through Canada and Europe. It has recently shared the road with Cursive, Beach Slang, Cymbals Eat Guitars and will head out with Charly Bliss this Summer.

Bear Trade, hailing from the North East of England, have revealed the latest song from forthcoming album ‘Silent Unspeakable’. The quintessentially English title of ‘As Long As We Have Tea’ references the song’s theme. It’s an uplifting and heartwarming love song from vocalist/guitarist Greg Robson to his wife.
The four-piece punk band’s second album ‘Silent Unspeakable’ will be released 21st April, 2017 via Everything Sucks Music in the UK and Dead Broke Rekerds in the US. The band are also off on tour with Strike Anywhere and Petrol Girls in April.
‘Silent Unspeakable’ is another personal affair (following on from the band’s debut ‘Blood & Sand’) comprising songs written from the heart and from Robson’s personal experiences, a commentary on life. The album was recorded at Suburban Home Studios in Leeds, with Matt Johnson from Hookworms. It was recorded over two weekends in Autumn 2016. Some of the songs were written three years ago and some we finished while we were recording them.

Chicago’s Ratboys, led by singer/guitarist Julia Steiner and guitarist Dave Sagan, will release its sophomore album entitled GN on June 30th (Topshelf Records). Drawing influence from the down-to-earth sincerity of late-90s Sheryl Crow and the confessional confidence of Kim Deal and Jenny Lewis, the songs on GN (aka ‘goodnight’) “largely detail experiences of saying goodbye, finding your way home, and then figuring out what the hell to do once you’re back,” says Steiner. The Fader, who premiered the album’s first single, “Control” says “the song is a perfect example of the special, personal nature of their music.”
LISTEN TO “CONTROL” HERE:
GN offers a bevy of tales, laments and triumphs, which recount near-tragedies by the train tracks, crippling episodes of loneliness, remembrances of a deceased family pet with freezer burn, and on and on. The songs shift and breathe as worlds all their own, tied together by the group’s self-proclaimed ‘post-country’ sound, which combines moments of distortion and a DIY aesthetic with a devotion to simple songwriting and ties to the Americana sounds of years past.
The songs chosen to close both sides of the record – the slow-burning “Crying About the Planets’” and quizzical “Peter the Wild Boy” – unpack the respective journeys of two real people who were quite literally lost and found. “”Crying” tells the survival story of Antarctic explorer Douglas Mawson from a first-person perspective, and “Peter” reflects on the life of a feral child in Germany who was eventually adopted by the King of England,” according to Steiner.
Certain personal stories – the tour adventures recapped in “GM,” the struggle to learn to show affection as divulged in “Molly” – find Ratboys just as eagerly exploring subject matter that comes from within, and then illustrating the highs and lows with soaring hooks and plaintive ones. Even in the moments that lie somewhere between bliss and misery, a tension persists between Steiner’s sweet vocal delivery and Sagan’s physical, almost-off-the-hinges guitar playing that lends each song a deeper sense of colour and movement.
Ratboys join Pet Symmetry and PWR BTTM for a handful of US shows this summer. All confirmed tour dates below.

In May, Olympia, WA based punk rock band RVIVR are heading out on a month long tour of the US and Canada.
A few related pieces of information:
– RVIVR have a new 7″ single, “The Tide” b/w “Shaggy.”
– RVIVR will be performing at the Pouzza Fest in Montreal, QB
– RVIVR is currently writing their next full length album and will be playing some of these new songs on the tour
Last year Don Giovanni Records worked with RVIVR to reissue the band’s self-titled debut, which was originally released in 2010 on Rumbletowne Records.

Lightcliffe are a bittersweet emo/indie-rock band hailing, unsurprisingly, from Brighton + London. Forming at the tail end of 2015, Lightcliffe haven’t had many years to craft their own vibe yet here we are. Mistakes I Seem To Make is a two track cassette release with DIY-bedroom-labels Honeypot Records and Backpack Records on April 7th. Lightcliffe sound like if Owls had grown up on a diet of RIDE and Bombay Bicycle Club. Real nice hooks over lovely twinkly guitar parts. FFO: Emo music and pop music.

Buffalo, NY alternative rockers Younger Then have signed with Standby Records and will release their self-titled debut EP on April 21.
The band says, “We are proud to announce our signing with Standby Records and the release of our debut EP. This is certainly a milestone in what we hope will be a long career as musicians.”
“The lead single ‘Ghost,’ is about a strained relationship between family members, and the lasting impact it can have on people. The album as a whole reflects on real-life experiences and how it’s made us who we are today.”
Swansea-based alternative rock band Nineteen Fifty Eight are pleased to reveal the video for the title track from their forthcoming new EP Dark Blue set for release on 19th May 2017 via Transcend Music.
Watch ‘Dark Blue’ here: https://youtu.be/
It’s a restrained slice of tasteful, pastel-coloured cinematography that focuses on the band’s matter-of-fact and honest performance, deliberately at odds with the high octane videos that are released so regularly and often don’t match up to the weight of reality.
Vocalist Ceryn Evans comments: “Dark Blue was such a fun song to write and I think it really shows our progression into where our ‘sound’ is heading. The video’s pink and blue pastel theme and the way we move really captures the sweetness of the melody but also melancholy tone of the lyrics. I’m proud of this song and I can’t wait to finally share it with everyone!”
“Without sounding cliché,” the band continue of their approach to making music “what we really hope to get across with our music is basically just ‘fuck what people think of you’. A lot of our lyrical content is about the typical stuff people our age go through like relationships, growing up and feeling shit as we’ve said already. Our music says what we feel and what we’re going through and we’d like to think that whoever is listening can relate and feel empowered.”
With support already coming in from Huw Stephens at BBC Radio One, Alex Baker at Kerrang! Radio, and Adam Walton at BBC Wales, this lot are only just getting started on their plans for world domination.
Dark Blue is released 19th May 2017 via Transcend Music
Bad Moves premiered a video for their song “The Verge” via The Le Sigh. The clip was directed by Ben Epstein and David Combs (aka Baby Pony Food) and the song is drawn from the band’s S/T EP, which was released on cassette last year by Don Giovanni Records. The EP will also be available as a 7″ on April 13th via Nervous Nelly Records. Bad Moves will tour the US and UK this spring alongside Puff Pieces, Nina Grizol, and The Spook School.

The ISOTOPES Release ‘Legend Of George Brett’ Music Video
‘Legend Of George Brett’ Is Taken From The New Album
‘1994 World Series Champions’ – Out April 13th 2017
The Isotopes go full-blown Wayne’s World in their new video for “Legend Of George Brett” as they pay homage to Baseball-Hall-Of-Famer, George Brett, and the infamous Las Vegas poop-his-pants incident. It ain’t a party ’til your pants have been destroyed! Party on!
Watch the new video here: https://youtu.be/
‘Legend Of George Brett’ is taken from the upcoming new album, ‘1994 World Series Champions’, which is set for April 13th release through Destiny Records (UK/EU) & Stomp Records (CA/USA).
‘1994 World Series Champions’ is 10 crushing baseball punk anthems that showcase the Isotopes’ vast baseball acumen and sharp clubhouse wit. Throughout the record, the band makes reference to many classic moments such as Hall Of Famer George Brett pooping his pants in the lobby of the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Jose Canseco blowing his own finger off while cleaning his pistol, and the time George Constanza steamrolled Bette Midler at home plate, sending her to the hospital.
The new album sees the Isotopes link up with Destiny Records in the UK and Europe, along with long-term teammates, Stomp Records in Canada/US.
Speaking on the new partnership, Jacho, label manager of Destiny Records said, “I’m super excited to have the Isotopes join us on Destiny Records. The new album is fantastic – In fact, it’s the best Ramones-esque punk rock experience I’ve had in the last 10 years! Perfect songs and huge amounts of fun.”
Frontman, Evan October followed up with, “We never knew Europe was such a huge baseball punk town. Turns out we feel right at home over there. It’s a real honour to join an organization like Destiny Records and we just wanna go out there and play hard every night and hopefully have another big season.”
‘1994 World Series Champions’ was recorded at Atlantis Sound by Jeremy Patch. Mastered by Stu McKillop.
The band are set to tour Mainland Europe extensively this Spring, commencing on 30.03.17, with dates throughout Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands.
With releases on Stomp Records, Red Scare Industries and Shake! Records previously, the Isotopes have pioneered the baseball punk movement, and cultivated a faithful legion of baseball punx worldwide with their gritty, no-bargain brand of juice-injected buzz-saw pop punk.
Truly operating like a punk rock all-star team, the Isotopes have seen over 40 players come through their ranks, including members of the Real McKenzies, Exploding F**k Dolls, Vibrators, DOA, Nervous Talk, and Dee Cracks, none of whom have played every show.
The club’s show-must-go-on ethos was famously put to action during a 2013 US tour, when singer, Evan October was detained at the US border and refused entry to the United States. Acting quickly, the ‘topes reshuffled the line-up and guitarist Dallas Duststorm stepped in on lead vocals.
“Nobody even f*****g noticed” recalls Duststorm, nearly five years later.
Subsequently, October and Duststorm were slapped with 5-year bans from entering the USA – but instead of hitting the showers, the club took a season to rebuild, and focus on dominating their home turf in Canada. Buoyed back into contention by signing to Stomp Records, the original bad boys of summer released their critically acclaimed, debut LP, Nuclear Strikezone, which features – amidst a barrage of hits – a cameo appearance by hall-of-fame ringer, Blag Dahlia of the Dwarves.
For those keeping score at home, the ‘Topes have shared the stage with some of the stiffest competition in the game such as: CJ Ramone, Pennywise, Off With Their Heads, ToyGuitar, Face To Face, The Real McKenzies, The Queers, Hanson Brothers, Zeroes, The Methadones, Teenage Bottlerocket, Chixdiggit, Swingin’ Utters, Gob, Agent Orange, Richie Ramone. 9/10 opponents agree – the ‘Topes are a force to be feared.
Showing no signs of a sophomore slump, the Isotopes Punk Rock Baseball Club heads full tilt into the 2017 season with their brand new, grand slam LP, “1994 World Series Champions” – out on April 13th through Stomp Records (CA) and Destiny Records (EU) on 12″ LP, CD and Digital Download.
New Jersey punks The Scandals will be releasing their new EP ‘Lucky Seven’ on April 28 via Panic State/Say-10 Records.
It was recorded at Red Bull Studios, NYC and produced by Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem. The Scandals frontman Jared Hart also plays in Fallon’s other project The Crowes.
A new song is premiering today on Brooklynvegan.
Pre-order ‘Lucky Seven’ here:
Frontman Jared Hart says “Hostage is a song I had been meaning to write for a very long time. It takes place in the communities and streets that we all know. It’s about a person in isolation due to a past or a present that you will never know. It’s about thinking about that person and wondering if anyone else in the world is thinking about them. It’s about wondering how the hell they made it this far. It’s about putting yourself in their shoes and asking if there’s anything you can do. It’s about neighbors and how we’ll never truly know the experiences of the person that can live so close to you. It can be about any one of us.”
The Scandals have toured with The Gaslight Anthem, The Falcon, TSOL and many others. They’ve also performed at Bamboozle, Skate & Surf, Punk Rock Bowling among other festivals. Their 2012 EP ‘Trenchknife’ was recorded with Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls.
The Scandals will be playing a show on 4/29 at Crossroads in Garwood, NJ with Gates, Dead Swords, Nine Eighteen, and D’arcy. Watch for additional shows to be announced shortly.
In the last decade, many things have changed, but there’s one thing that’s remained constant: The Scandals. The New Jersey punk band has been keeping the energy and emotions of dark and cramped basement shows alive, and have taken their own unique brand of anthemic punk rock across the United States and Europe. Relentless touring over the last couple of years has pushed their live show and songwriting to the next level, and it’s apparent on ‘Lucky Seven.’
About The Scandals:
The Scandals are a punk rock band from New Jersey.
We are four guys who spend more time in our van than our own beds.
The Scandals were founded in 2004 and started off with numerous demos and EP’s. Our first full length, “The Sound of Your Stereo,” was released in 2010 on Skeleton Crew Records, later repressed by Say 10 Records.
We recorded our next EP “Trenchknife,” with Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls and released it in 2012. We also released an EP called “Riot on the Dancefloor: The Story of Randy Now and City Gardens” and a split 7” with New Mexico’s Stabbed in Back the same year.
In 2013 we were chosen to be a part of the Red Bull Sound Select program, which is a continuing partnership between the band and members of the Red Bull Music team. We have played numerous music festivals such as the Bamboozle festival in 2008/09, Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas in 2011, CMJ in New York City in 2012, SXSW in Austin in 2013, Myfest in Berlin in 2014, and the Skate and Surf festival in 2014/15.
In March of 2014 we embarked on our first European tour via City Rat Booking and Gunner Records to support our European exclusive release “Time Machines.”
In 2015 we released 2 split 7”s with Plow United and Jaguar Shark and hit the road with The Gaslight Anthem and Northcote, then headed back to Europe for more touring.
To sum it up, The Scandals are a touring band. We have a van, it’s registered, and we’re ready to roll. When the band is not on the road Jared is out with an acoustic guitar screaming his way through bars, living rooms, venues, parking lots and record stores because that’s where this music lives; on the road.
DEEP STATE – Debut album Thought Garden out on Friendship Fever Records on 14 April
Stream Full Album Via New Noise: http://newnoisemagazine.com/
Deep State are streaming their debut album Thought Garden in its entireity via New Noise. Due for release on Friendship Fever on 14 April, the LP features some of the best, pure-bent, rock joy heard in a generation in their portion of America’s east coast. The band consists of Athens, Georgia residents Taylor Chmura (guitar, vocals), Christian Deroeck (bass), Michael Gonzalez (drums) and Ryan Gray Moore (guitar).
“I’ve had a few albums roughly written since 2014, and slowly we have been sifting through that wasteland (my writings). We became much more collaborative in a band sense. Instead of me bringing the songs to Christian, Michael, and Ryan and playing exactly what I had written in my room, I would bring a song to them and it we would make it evolve in the practice space. At the end of the day our mode is supposed to be as simple as possible so as not to get distracted.I read ‘Narcissus and Goldmund’ by Hermann Hesse while we were on tour in 2015. There’s a beautiful passage about Goldmund realizing that a life of sinless solitude (‘laying out a lonely harmonious thought-garden’) would not be as human as learning from chaos and self-destruction.I’ve developed an obsession and fondness for thinking of the mind as a garden. Our first full-length, ‘Nice,’ is about voicing frustration outward; ‘Thought Garden’ seeks to be more introspective.”
Thought Garden is a thoughtful and cathartic listen that shoots straight from the gut, head, and heart. Across the album, Chmura examines inward frustrations at the things that exist in your mind and work against you, in search of a sense of self-resolution. Thought Garden captures the raw energy of a band being a band, recorded live over two days last January in Athens’ Chase Park Transduction studio with Drew Vandenberg, who has worked on albums by Of Montreal, Deerhunter, Porcelain Raft, and Mothers, among others.
Deep State formed in Athens, Georgia not so long ago, a group of friends from bands, college, restaurant jobs: Moore was getting a master’s degree in guitar performance; Chmura wanted to form an aggressive/cathartic/punk band that was undeniably catchy. Melodies were floating around constantly in Chmura’s head until the noise became too much. He asked his friends for a hand fleshing out his ideas, and lo and behold, everything meshed in a beautiful way. The songs finished themselves. As the band tells it, Moore, Gonzalez, and Deroeck are the pros, and the most amateur musician in the band fronts it. A memorable, moment-producing formula. A full track listing and cover artwork are below.
Authority Zero have announced their sixth full-length album, titled Broadcasting to the Nations, which is scheduled to be released on June 2nd through Bird Attack Records.
Join the band on June 3rd at The Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ for their record release party! Tickets go on sale Friday, April 14th and can be purchased here: http://smarturl.it/bttn-
Since ’94 Authority Zero has brought their unique signature blend of anthemic melodic-punk and reggae to the masses. The band was formed in Mesa, AZ by a group of high school friends with ample ambition but no lofty expectations. After a few years, they refined and established their sound: a mix of SoCal punk with reggae and ska tendencies. With the release of their debut album A Passage in Time (2002, Lava Records), the band’s career gained momentum quickly and they’ve since spent their fair share of time on the road, having toured extensively with such acts as Pennywise, Sum 41, Flogging Molly and many more. They’ve released a total of 5 full length studio albums.
The band entered Fort Collins, Colorado’s legendary The Blasting Room Studio (Rise Against, Descendents, NOFX) in December of 2016 to start work on their album Broadcasting to the Nations with producer/iconic punk drummer Bill Stevenson (of Black Flag/Descendents fame) at the helm. DeVore describes the direction of the new material: “It’s really going to be an exciting album. It’s a combination I think of The Tipping Point (released in 2013) meets the first album A Passage in Time.
Describing themselves as a “(fucking) loud instrumental band”, Liverpool’s Alpha Male Tea Party are pleased to announce they have signed to Big Scary Monsters Recordings and will release their third studio album Health on 23rd June 2017.
Preorders are live now at www.bsmrocks.com
Commenting on the new material, the trio say: “We spent a while working out how we wanted to make it happen and decided to be a proper band this time, so we booked out a residential studio in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside for a week to create our newest Ugly Baby. We are over the moon with how the album came out. It’s probably the first time we’ve truly got what’s in our heads properly on to record.”
The band have also revealed a string of UK headline dates and festival appearances (details below), alongside streaming new album track ‘Nobody Had The Heart To Tell Him He Was On Fire’ in full.
Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/
Following on from 2014’s critically acclaimed second full length, Droids, having spent the best part of three years touring both the UK and Europe as well as appearances at ArcTanGent, Handmade and Strangeforms Festivals, their latest offering was recorded at Woodworm Studios in Oxfordshire and produced by band member Tom Peters (The Fall, Big Country, Cleft, Falls, Axes and more).
Citing influence from the likes of Everything Everything, Deftones & Three Trapped Tigers, on Health, the band delve ever further into their multi-layered, effects-strewn, experimental world that’s seen their fan base increasingly swell since their self-titled 2012 debut.
A little older, a little wiser, more full (dad)-bodied and muscular, is this the sound of Alpha Male Tea Party leaving their wisecracking youth behind and finally coming into their own as serious contenders? You’ll have to be the judge of that.
Health is released 23rd June 2017 via Big Scary Monsters
2017 Live Dates:
April 26th – Stag & Hounds, Bristol
April 27th – AATMA, Manchester
April 28th – Birthdays, London
April 29th – Green Door Store, Brighton
July 23rd – Truck Festival, Oxford
July 29th – Cloudspotting Festival, Clitheroe
August 18th – ArcTanGent Festival, Bristol
After recently supporting their hotly-tipped Scots comrades in Vukovi, Glaswegian alt-rockers Donnie Willow are extremely pleased to announce the release of their new EP Exhibition on 9th June 2017 via Sunbird Records.
Commenting on the signing, the band said: “We have been working closely with the Sunbird team for the past 6 months or so, they have treated us like one of their own each time we’ve been down to play at their venue and we are delighted to now officially call them part of the Donnie Willow family. It’s just a big group of friends making and releasing music and we couldn’t be more excited about it!”
To celebrate the news, the band are sharing a brand new song ‘Blessed Company’ in full – listen and share here: https://soundcloud.com/
“It’s a lot heavier than some of the other stuff we’ve done,” says frontman Arthur Piddington about the new track “but it’s such a fun song to play live and has been received very well at shows. Vocally, I made a conscious decision to push myself and showcase an improvement from the last record.
“At the time of writing it, my head was a mess. I had so many things that I wanted to vent through the lyrics that it became a culmination of topics rather than just being about one thing. I also tortured myself with rewriting it so many times that I ended up totally doubting its worth. But I am super happy with how it turned out, Bruce (Rintoul) did a great job with the production, it’s exactly how we imagined it.”
Citing the likes of Reuben, Glassjaw, Deftones, Arcane Roots, Basement, Tubelord and TTNG as influences, it’s immediately clear from their new material that Donnie Willow have every intention of being every bit as vital as the bands they idolise.
Meshing the heaviest of riffs with a penchant for interesting time signatures, intricate guitar lines and interwoven vocal harmonies that power forth into expansive, unforgettable choruses, the enormous production on the new record courtesy of producer Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, Fatherson, Vukovi) and mastered by Ed Woods (Reuben, Twin Atlantic, The Xcerts, Manic Street Preachers) makes ‘Blessed Company’ a staggering introduction to their latest offering.
The band have been dominating local music scenes around the UK for the past few years with their attention grabbing live performances and fresh approach to song writing, building their widespread fan-base throughout the underground since forming in 2013, sharing the stage with the likes of Fatherson, Don Broco and Black Peaks with notable support from Rock Sound, Kerrang! and the BBC Radio One Rock Show.
Their critically acclaimed 2016 release Inhale, Exhale was the first marker of a band that clearly had the chops to compete with the best of their contemporaries, and the new record marks another bar raised for the trio. Beefier, bolder and even more experimental, this first glimpse of Exhibition promises even bigger things on the horizon for this young band.
